Luxury for Less

I have a secret...I really do enjoy life's luxuries. Sometimes I do drool over the Tiffany's website. I definitely love a great perfume. Wandering a yard sale today, I spotted the beauty pictured above brand new in box for $5.00! It smells divine like citrus, vanilla, honeysuckle sweetness. Okay, just for fun I looked up Burberry perfume on the Neiman Marcus website for a cost comparison and it was....drumroll please...$68.00. Yikes. The finer things really do cost, but apparently not for me. LOVE IT!

Why rent when you can own?

I don't know about you, but I am bored to death with none of my TV shows on this summer. You can only play Wii so many hours a day before you long for the pithy humor of Corner Gas, the drama of Grey's Anatomy, the delusional queasiness of LOST....
So to fill the hours hubby and I have been watching lots of Redbox movies. They are a great price, just $1.00 per daily rental. However, our machines are a bit picked over right now.
At a yard sale today, I found the DVD Robots, which I haven't seen yet (I know I live in a cave or something). It cost me a whole dollar. I could have rented Redbox today or purchased a movie that I can watch over and over again and eventually resell at my own yard sale. hmmmm. I think there's a financial lesson here somewhere...

yard sale wrapping extravaganza

Something you may see in yard sales this summer is gift wrap. I found everything in this picture for $4.00. There are 6 rolls of paper, an entire bag of ribbons, a bunch of tissue paper, another bag of just gift bags, and a set of all occasion cards. Basically, I got an entire year's worth of wrapping supplies at a fraction of their cost even on clearance. I will stash these away in my wrapping center. (aka an old dressed repurposed to fulfill my gift giving needs) This way I'm not rummaging around to find wrap at the last minute and then running to the store to pay top dollar for everything. In the end, it is a stress reliever to have everything organized and on hand. What interesting finds have you snagged recently?

My mom was in a great mood physically and mentally today. She wanted to go yard saling of course! Well, sometimes Thursdays are hit and miss for good sales, but we tried anyway. There was a yard sale down a long winding dirt road. I almost gave up trying to find it, then we hit pay dirt. A wonderful lady was paring back her amazing garden to make room for new growth. She had mounds of creeping myrtle, which is a wonderful ground cover and grows for even the blackest thumb. She dug up two mounds for me filling two bags. The price you ask? $2.00. I also got a nice sized red raspberry bush for $2.00. Mom got a hosta and an antique ladder/plant stand for $5.00. Since Mom was in a wheelchair, she asked about her cancer. When she heard the details, she was kind enough to give us a mint plant free of charge because she had read that mint plants were good for cancer patients. Some days really restore your faith in humanity.
